New President for BAM/PFA Board of Trustees

The University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAM/PFA) is pleased to announce the election of Jane Green as president of its Board of Trustees. Green, who has been active on the BAM/PFA board since 1992, follows Barclay Simpson, who is retiring from the position of Board President after serving in that role for six years. Green's three-year term as president begins in July 1, 2003.

"I am extremely pleased that Jane has stepped forward to lead the BAM/PFA Board of Trustees," says Kevin E. Consey, Director. "Her strong connections to the East Bay community and dedication to promoting the importance of the visual arts to society make her an ideal leader for BAM/PFA as we continue developing plans for a new physical facility for the museum and film archive."

In her ten years as a trustee Jane Green, who has a Master's Degree in art history from Mills College, Oakland, has been an active supporter of the museum and film archive. Green has a strong interest in both art and film as well as a close familiarity with the mission and operations of the University (her husband, Jeff Green, is a UC Berkeley alumnus). Jane Green's commitment to the arts also includes support of the art department at Mills College, where she established the Jane Green Endowment for Studies in Art History and Criticism. In addition Green has played an important role in helping support the California Shakespeare Festival, and the Museum of Children's Art (MOCHA) in Oakland, California.

Green succeeds Barclay Simpson, who served as president of the BAM/PFA Board of Trustees since 1997. Simpson, who is a Cal alumnus, has been a generous and vital supporter of BAM/PFA for many years. He is an ardent advocate for the arts at UC Berkeley and a major force in the initiative to replace the seismically challenged building on Bancroft Way in Berkeley. Simpson will continue his involvement with the BAM/PFA Board of Trustees in the role of Chairman.

The Board of the BAM/PFA also re-elected attorney Noel W. Nellis as Vice President of the Board and Professor Robert Edelstein as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. Noel Nellis, who is a UC Berkeley alumnus, is a partner with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, and has been a member of the BAM/PFA Board of Trustees for 12 years. Nellis also served as president of the board from 1991 to 1997. Professor Edelstein is Co-Chairman of the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics and Professor of Business Administration at UC Berkeley's Walter A. Haas School of Business.

In the last year the BAM/PFA Board has also approved the addition of the following new members:

Steven Addis is CEO of Addis Group, a Berkeley-based marketing and branding company that includes among its clients Intel, America Online, Pepsi-Cola, 24-Hour Fitness, The Gap, and Charles Schwab & Co. He is an alumnus of UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business.

Rena Bransten is a UC Berkeley alumna and owner of the highly respected Rena Bransten Gallery in San Francisco.

Her sculptural creations, which reflect her interest in embroidery, fabric design, and multi-media fabric art, are in many private Bay Area collections including those of the Irvine Foundation and State Farm Insurance.
Gene Howe, a resident of both Reno, Nevada, and Scottsdale, Arizona, is an avid art collector with a particular focus on California artists.
