Our Tuesday offerings of avant-garde and experimental cinema include in-person presentations by Morgan Fisher, whose acclaimed new film ( ) was featured at the Rotterdam and New York Film Festivals, and Julie Murray, who creates gorgeous, edgy or sensual, deftly edited found-footage films, as well as our annual program of student films from Bay Area schools. Tuesday programs during the fall semester are presented in conjunction with the UC Berkeley course Avant-Garde Film taught by Miryam Sas, associate professor in comparative literature and film studies.

Morgan Fisher in Person. With wry humor and precise observation, Morgan Fisher explores the whole process of filmmaking, even the act of projection, in films like Production Stills and the classic Standard Gauge. His acclaimed newest film is titled ( ), a tribute to the hapless inserts (newspaper headlines, letters, calendar pages, etc.) we take for granted in feature films.

Julie Murray in Person. Julie Murray's deftly edited films of the past decade show a vivid curiosity about the surrealism of the natural world in sensual, rhythmic cinematic explorations. With her artistic eye she finds an existential question in a found scientific film: "Slime Molds: Plant or Animal?" and also presents a new work.

7:30 p.m. Alternative Requirements: Experimental Works from Bay Area Schools
Artists in Person. This annual selection of experimental works by students in Bay Area film schools offers an exciting look at the diverse styles and concerns of emerging film and video artists.
