| The Wedding of Moussa ('Urs Moussa). Tayeb Mefti Algeria, 1982 | |
Like A Wife for My Son, this film tells of an Algerian guest worker in France who returns to find a wife. But the similarity ends there, for when the arranged marriage does not materialize, The Wedding of Moussa becomes the only film in our series about fulfilled love-and shared rebellion. An optimistic look at the possibilities for relations between the sexes in Algerian society-albeit by a circuitous route.
• Written by Mefti. Photographed by Allel Yahyaoui. With Helene Katzaras, Mohamed Salah Hafidi, Chafia Boudraa. (110 mins, In Arabic with English subtitles, Color, 35mm)
