| Freaks 1932 | |
Tod Browning (who directed the original Dracula) cast actual circus and sideshow "freaks" in his now-classic carny/horror film, a mixture of the comic and the grotesque that centers on the story of a midget who falls in love with a "normal" trapeze artist. When the latter discovers that the midget owns a fortune, she hatches a murder plot.
• Directed by Tod Browning. Written by Willis Goldbeck and Leon Gordon, from the story "Spurs" by Tod Robbins. Photographed by Merritt B. Gerstad. With Wallace Ford, Leila Hyams, Olga Baclanova. (1932, 64 mins, 35mm, Print from United Artists Classics)
