"A GENERATIONAL MILESTONE! Consistently fleet and funny, even as it probes the heady abandon and looming hangover that typified the decade of discontent."–Keith Uhlich, Time Out New York
The Graduate, a satirical comedy-drama that defined a decade, was a surprise box-office hit that went on to receive seven Academy Award nominations. In the role that made him a star, Dustin Hoffman plays Benjamin Braddock, a college graduate attempting to find his way in the world, bouncing between his seducer Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft) and the woman of his dreams, her daughter Elaine Robinson (Katharine Ross). With a classic Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack, The Graduate is a time capsule of an era; its scenes in Berkeley and the Bay Area are required viewing for movie trivia (especially the scene where Benjamin drives to Berkeley on the upper deck of the Bay Bridge).
• Written by Buck Henry, Calder Willingham, from the novel by Charles Webb. Photographed by Robert Surtees. With Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, Katharine Ross, William Daniels. (105 mins, Color, ‘Scope, 35mm, From Rialto Pictures)
