| 3:00 p.m. | Speedy Ted Wilde (U.S., 1928) |
Bruce Loeb on Piano
Featuring Babe Ruth in one of his three feature-film appearances, Speedy follows baseball-mad hero Harold Lloyd’s efforts to save New York’s last horse-drawn streetcar line from extinction. This plot obviously opens infinite avenues for speed gags, but the film also contains some of Lloyd’s most touching scenes. It all culminates in a slam-bang chase through the crowded streets of New York.
• Written by John Grey, Lex Neal, et al. Photographed by Walter Lundin. With Harold Lloyd, Ann Christy, Bert Woodruff, Brooks Benedict. (86 mins, Silent, B&W, 35mm, From Sony Pictures)
