| Johan van der Keuken: Early Shorts Johan van der Keuken Netherlands | |
These four early poetic films reveal the origins of the complex, layered style of van der Keuken's later documentaries, many of which will screen at PFA in the weeks prior to the Festival (see our March-April Calendar). The lyrical, subjective camerawork, detailed observations of everyday life, and sensitivity to inner reality make these portraits among the most lovely of short films. These fragmented glimpses of other lives send us beyond the frame, to the life that continues outside the film. A Moment of Silence (1963, 10 mins). Beppie (1965, 35 mins). Herman Slobbe/Blind Child 2 (1966, 29 mins). Big Ben/Ben Webster in Europe (1967, 32 mins).
