When is Art Research? - Strategic Working Group
2005/06
In Spring 2004, the annual Arts Research Center conference addressed the question “When is Art Research?” This topic generated a high level of interest and continued discussion amongst faculty and graduate students. The following year, ARC member Shannon Jackson (Professor of Rhetoric and Theater, Dance, & Performance Studies) submitted a proposal to the Townsend Center for the Humanities to form a Strategic Working Group that would continue to address this fertile question. “When Is Art Research?” became one of the two new Townsend/Mellon Strategic Working Groups launched in 2005-2006. The Strategic Working Group was composed of faculty, graduate students, and resident artists from Music, Film, Art Practice, Dance, History of Art, Architecture, Theatre, and English. In the spring semester, the group interrogated the relationship between the practice of art and the university's research and teaching agenda. In addition to these meetings, the group coordinated with the Art Research Center and Townsend Center to present a series of events throughout the year.
The following programs were free and open to the public.
