These are among the Sentences on a Hat compiled in an artist’s book by James Lee Byars, whose whimsical Conceptual work is currently featured in Gallery C. Always dapper, the artist was rarely photographed without a hat of some sort. In addition to artist’s books, James Lee Byars: The Perfect Audience includes a selection of performance stills (featuring Byars in his many hats), mail art, ephemera, and a newly restored film of the artist in performance in Bern, Switzerland.
